What are the components of a solar system?

A complete solar system consists of a solar panel, a battery and a charge controller. In some cases, a power inverter is also required.

System Setup

How does a solar system work?

Composed of multiple solar cells in series or in parallel, a solar panel produces direct current (DC) power; when a solar panel is connected to a battery, this power is stored in the battery. A charge controller connected between the solar panel and the battery monitors the battery and prevents the solar panel from overcharging while assuring a complete charge.

A solar system requires an inverter when the DC power needs to be converted into alternating current (AC) power to operate appliances or supply power to the utility grid.

How do I set up my Sunsei™ SolarCharger 135?

  • Remove connector cap
  • Attach the cigarette lighter adapter or battery clamp wire to the solar panel
  • Connect the solar panel to cigarette lighter or battery
  • Make sure all 12V system connections are in parallel - i.e. positive (+) to positive (+), negative (-) to negative (-)

How do I set up my Sunsei™ SolarCharger 400?

  • Remove connector caps
  • Connect the grey plug of the extension cable to the solar panel connector
  • Attach the battery clamp wire or 12V socket wire to the battery
  • Connect the other end of this wire to the black plug of the extension cable
  • Make sure all 12V system connections are in parallel - i.e. positive (+) to positive (+), negative (-) to negative (-)
  • Mount to a flat surface using the screws and center legs provided, or combine with the Sunsei™ SolarGrip for additional mounting options

If you have more than one Sunsei™ SolarCharger, interconnect the panels using the connector cable provided.

How do I set up my Sunsei™ SolarCharger 1200?

  • Remove connector caps
  • Do not connect the solar panel directly to the battery – always use a Sunsei™ charge controller
  • Connect the charge controller to the battery
  • Connect the grey plug of the extension cable to the solar panel connector
  • Attach the battery clamp wire or 12V socket wire to the battery
  • Connect the other end of this wire to the black plug of the extension cable
  • Make sure all 12V system connections are in parallel - i.e. positive (+) to positive (+), negative (-) to negative (-)
  • Mount to a flat surface using the screws and center legs provided

If you have more than one Sunsei™ SolarCharger, interconnect the panels using the connector cable provided.

How do I set up my Sunsei™ SolarCharger 4/6/8000?

  • Select a solid and supportive mounting surface capable of withstanding all expected loads, including pressure imposed by wind and snow
  • Secure the solar panel(s) to the surface using the mounting brackets and screws provided (install at least one bracket on every side)

If you have more than one Sunsei™ SolarCharger, interconnect the panels using the connector cable provided.
