ICP Solar is involved with charities and local community organizationsAt ICP Solar, we believe that corporations and their employees must accept community responsibilities. We recognize the importance of giving back and helping to improve the quality of life in the communities we serve. In addition to providing annual Christmas baskets and seasonal donations, ICP Solar is involved with soup kitchens, food banks and local children’s charities throughout the year. We are also proud supporters of the following charities: ICP Solar supports local and international causes through corporate sponsorshipICP Solar provides corporate sponsorship to a variety of community groups and individuals worldwide. Below are a few examples of our involvement with these worthwhile causes. Lights for Learning / Kenyan Schools Project ICP Solar donates solar panels to Lights for Learning, a charitable organization in the UK that provides low-maintenance solar powered lighting systems for use in Kenyan homes and schools. The systems were developed by the charity’s founder, Roger Mugridge, who wired together a small solar panel, a rechargeable battery and two LED lights; each system can provide light for up to 56 hours. Lights for Learning solar systems not only help Kenyans eliminate the risk of fire associated with traditional lighting methods like paraffin lamps and candles, but also enable children to keep learning long after the sun has set. Lights for Learning The Goree Challenge In December 2005, Victor Mooney, a communications officer for ASA - The College of Advanced Technology in Brooklyn, New York, will begin his Solo Transatlantic Row from Goree Island, Senegal, to The Brooklyn Bridge in New York to encourage Abstinence, AIDS Education & Prevention. In addition to being a corporate sponsor of this event, ICP Solar has provided a complete solar system for Victor’s boat. The Goree Challenge Manon Horwood’s Tour du Monde à Vélo On August 1, 2005, Manon Horwood left Montreal, Canada on a 30-month solo cycling world tour to raise funds for the Quebec Cancer Foundation. In total, she will cover 30,000 km in 15 countries on three separate continents. Sponsors are invited to purchase kilometers at $5 CDN each, with $4 of this amount going to the Quebec Cancer Foundation. When Manon approached ICP Solar for advice on how to use solar power, we in turn donated the necessary solar panels and equipment to keep her small electronics and appliances running throughout her journey. Manon Horwood’s Tour du Monde à Vélo ICP Solar has also provided sponsorship assistance and solar equipment for camping exhibition treks and other outdoor pursuits, including cyclists Janick Lemieux and Pierre Bouchard’s tour of the Pacific Ring of Fire. ICP Solar recognizes the importance of community involvement at every level of our organizationAt ICP Solar, we encourage our employees (or, as we like to think of them, the best team in the solar industry) to be involved with community groups and extracurricular activities. We take pride in their achievements and are always there to provide encouragement and support. Our employees’ dedication goes far beyond regular business hours. We are grateful not only for the extra time they put in to get the job done, but also for their community involvement. Together, we can make a world of difference.
